Ty Williams is a product of the Innisfail Brothers club where he was an outstanding junior player. He progressed to the senior side and the Cairns Foley Shield team. After his prolific try scoring feats in club and Foley Shield games, Williams made his debut for the Cowboys in 2002.

His steady progress as a footballer saw him play a major role in the Cowboys surge to the semi-finals in 2004. His consistency was rewarded in 2005 when he was chosen in the Queensland state of Origin side, scoring a try in debut after the ball had come off the knee of another former Innisfail High School student, Billy Slater.
