Kel O'Shea

Kel O'Shea made his first representative appearances at senior level during the 1951 season and gained a place in the Grand Final team. He had played junior football for the St. Francis club and represented Ayr as a junior. O'Shea represented Queensland (1953-1955) and Australia (1954 World Cup) while playing for Ayr Colts. His Rugby League skills helped Ayr to its second Foley Shield success in 1954, when the talent laden team included Harry and Nev Linde, both former Queensland representatives, and Jack Russell-Green, the former New Zealand halfback. In 1956 O'Shea moved to Sydney Western Suburbs, played three Tests against New Zealand, and was selected to tour with the 1956-57 Kangaroos to England and France. He played in all three Tests against Great Britain and also the three Tests with the Frenchmen. He played a further three Tests against the Brits in their tour of Australia in 1958. O'Shea's combination with Norm Provan in the second row is regarded as one of Australia's greatest ever back row partnerships.
