PATRICK "COCKY" MCMAHON

Patrick "Cocky" McMahon started his football career in Mt Isa during the Second World War era. He moved to Toowoomba after the war and was a fixture in Toowoomba Bulimba Cup and Queensland sides. McMahon first played for the Maroons in 1946 and again in 1947 and 1948, the first year of the Foley Shield, playing in all four games against New South Wales and one match against New Zealand. It was to be a memorable year for McMahon after he was chosen to play in the two Tests for Australia against New Zealand and then the Kangaroo tour to England and France at the end of the year. On the tour he played in three Tests against Great Britain and two against France. In all, he played in 22 matches on the Kangaroo tour. The next season, 1949, the flying winger again represented Australia in the two Tests against France and another two Test on the tour of New Zealand. He also played two games for Queenland against New South Wales. He moved north to coach Babinda in the Foley Shield competition in 1950 and played for North Queensland against the visiting English team and for Queensland in an interstate game. He again represented Queensland in 1951 after he had returned to Towwoomba to make a total of 15 appearances for Queensland and eight Tests fo Australia.
