CEC AYNSLEY

Cec Aynsley was a product of Charters Towers Rugby League where he played for the Federals club. The speedy winger was part of the great Queensland teams of the 1920's. His try scoring feats against New South Wales were legendary and at one stage he had scored 11 tries in 11 matches, as well as kicking 15 goals. He played for the Ipswich Starlight club but it was from Brisbane Wests that his representative career started. In 1922 Aynsley was chosen for Queensland in the two matches played over Easter against the Kangaroos who had returned from the tour of England. He again played for the winning Queensland team in the two 1923 interstate games against New South Wales. In 1924 he was in Queensland's team that won the two games against New South Wales in Sydney and defeated the touring English team. The 25-10 victory was Queensland's first win against an international team. Following Queensland's win over the English, Cec Aynsley played in all three tests against the visiting Englishmen including being a member of the victorious third test team that boasted an all Queensland backline. In what was a busy year for Queensland footballers, Aynsley lined up for the Maroons in a match against Victoria at Davies Park and then went on the Queensland team's tour of North Queensland where he played against Far North Queensland in Innisfail. The final interstate game against New South Wles was billed as a contest between Aynsley and New South Wales' Harold Horder for winger supremacy. This overlooked the mighty efforts of Bill Paten on the other wing in contributing to Queensland's run of success. Queensland again defeated the Blues to take out a sixth consecutive win over the old enemy. Cec Aynsley got to play one more test for Australia, in 1928 against England. He continued to represent Queensland until 1930 playing an amazing total of 35 matches for the Maroons.
